Kurt and Jennifer

Brian's best friend and best man at our wedding just got engaged a little while ago! We are SO excited for him and his fiancee, Jennifer!!! CONGARATULATIONS!!!

Brian and Sara's Day Off

We got a day off together!! Brian is working the midnight shift, so his body clock is kinda a little "off." Ususally he sleeps until at least noon (even on his days off)... but there was a job fair in Georgia that he went to which got his body clock back onto a somewhat normal sleep schedule. After he returned from Georgia, he had another day off - and I was off, too!! It's such a rare coincidence that we would have the ENTIRE day off together! :) He didn't have to sleep in until noon that day since he went to bed at a decent time the night before which meant that we could literally play all day...

So...

We went to Denver!

We had been wanting to go up there for a long time and go to the planetarium and walk around in Confleuce Park, but we never had enough time to do it by the time Brian woke up in the afternoon. Finally, we had our opportunity!

The first thing we did when we got to Denver was go inside the big REI Flagship store. I had never been inside, but Brian had! Brian gave me the "grande tour" - wow, that store is AWESOME. They even have a little playground inside with neat tunnels to crawl through and slides to go down. It wasn't until AFTER we had crawled around and slid down the slides taht we saw the sign saying "grown-ups" weren't allowed to play on the playgound. Oh, well. Guess it didn't apply to us anyway - we certainly aren't grown-ups after all... :)

I found a cute pair of shorts to use my REI dividend on. Brian decided to save his and decide on something later - but there was so much to see inside that store.

Then we walked down to where the kayakers practice their moves in Confluence Park. There was one kayaker there in the stream practicing (yes, they really do kayak in the middle of downtown Denver!). Brian was amazed! It really is pretty cool to watch. We got our picture taken with a view of the stream where kayakers practice and REI in the background.

After that, we walked the trail a little bit and found a really awesome mural painted on the walls surrounding an underpass. Ironic enough, they had painted one of our favorite animals on the wall among the other pictures... there was a marmot!!!! We love marmots! We had a funny experience with them on one of our last backpacking trips. Of course, we had to take a picture of the marmot painting. It was huge!

After we walked, we found a park to play in for awhile - and then we went to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. They currently have an exhibit there that displays the power and wonder of "mother nature." There are tornado exhibits and active displays there that help you understand earthquakes. There's even some informational displays on weather that explain how thunderstorms and hurricanes form. It's pretty awesome! This weather geek gives it two thumbs up!

Then the best part... we went to the planetarium and saw "Cosmic Collisions." Wow, I love that planetarium. The show was narrated by Robert Redford and it explained how the earth and our moon was formed. It said that someday, our Milky Way Galaxy will collide with our nearest neighbor, the Andromeda Galaxy - but that the galaxies are so large that very few planets will even be affected by the collision. Isn't that amazing?! Brian and I love anything and everything having to do with space! We goofed around in the space exhibit for awhile and decided that, should there ever be a Starfleet Academy, we are SO sigining up for it! :)

Then we left the museum, sat by the lake for awhile and watched the geese, and decided it was time for dinner. We headed for LODO ("Lower Downtown") and serindipitously found a wonderful Mexican Restaurant. Wow, the food was amazing! We sat on their patio and ejoyed chips, salsa, enchiladas, and tacos. (I had a delicious mini margarita, too!) We will certainly try to come back to that restaurant. Anyone who loves good Mexican food should definitely try the Rio Grand. The service was great - and the ambiance was very authentic. They even have huge, pretty fountain on their patio!

We were tired from our long, fun day and headed home after that. It was so good to have a day off with Brian... we will have a few days off over my Spring Break, too - so stay tuned!!
